The gold Krugerrand has become a favourite among collectors and investors and is now a staple of many collections and portfolios. The coin was created to help promote South African gold on international markets. Interestingly, it has never been assigned a face value.
The gold Krugerrand is prized around the world for its highly desirable, history-inspired design. The reverse features a majestic springbok antelope as it springs into action. The obverse depicts President Kruger, a reminder of the political and military events of 19th century South Africa.
The South African Mint partnered with the Rand Refinery for the mintage. The Mint is owned by the South African Reserve Bank and mints coins and bullion for them. President Paul Kruger decided to establish a national mint in 1886 when gold was discovered near Johannesburg. Today, the South African Mint is one of the most important export mints in the world.
The year of the coinage varies according to current supply. The coin is packaged in a protective capsule.
