In 2024, the Czech National Bank presents the fourth issue of coins with a face value of CZK 500 dedicated to famous means of transport.
The 2024 coin is dedicated to the ČKD Tatra T3 tram.
The Tatra T3 tram is one of the most famous public transport vehicles in the Czech Republic. Although the first passengers rode it as early as 1962, its modernised versions still form a large part of the fleet in Prague.
A total of 14,000 units were produced, making the T3 a world record holder - the most numerous tram in history.
Two thousand cars served in their homeland, the greater half of them in the capital, and other series were exported abroad.
The colour of the tram is indicated on the coin by partial plating with yellow and red gold.
The author of the commemorative coin is the academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů.
Each coin is accompanied by a light brown catalogue card with a description of the coin and its plastic representation. The package also includes a gift case with the CNB logo.
