Wombat, one of Australia's most popular animals, is a marsupial native to the continent. It has adapted to the various challenging conditions in the southern hemisphere. A unique feature of Wombat is its clear evolutionary return bag, which allows the protection of transferred young when digging in the environment of underground burrows.

The first edition of the new series has a worldwide circulation of only 25,000 coins and thus a high collector's potential. It is minted from 99.99% pure silver and issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

The reverse side shows Wombata in his lair. The mintmark "P" Perth Mint, weight, purity and the year 2021 also appear in the relief. The obverse bears a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. and a monetary denomination of 1 AUD.
